Little Jakes in Hastings,Nebraska was the venue
for 3 local bands to showcase their talent.
The 2nd band of the night was
Grow Room
A group of Nebraska natives,
Rich Mattison-guitars & vocals
Gabe Troester-bass player
Kent Arnold-drums & vocals
Grow Room took the stage and performed their original music,
which ranges in sound from jazz, blues, modern rock to classic rock,Their blending of many different styles & influences puts them into a whole new musical genre. They definitely express themselves through their music,& that is what Grow Room is all about. They certainly release pent-up energy & put it into every live performance.Audiences should definitely prepare for a show that is full of energy.
Grow Room's music has a positive energy,& a feel good
quality about it,that is sure to appeal to many different
crowds of many different ages.
The guys in Grow Room are no strangers to the music scene,
They have been together for about 11 years,Grow room practiced & rehearsed religiously up to three times a week for a couple years before settling on some material & getting out to play shows. Then in 2001 they produced their first album. Rich informed us that they hope to add another vocalist & continue to work on original material as well as remaking some older songs. they would like to do shows about twice a month regionally,& hope to release another album soon.
Grow Room shared some stories of funny things
that has happened to them as a band,we were told that
From "titty' contests,to fights,to busts they've seen it all,
But probably the funniest thing was at a small bar
without a stage where everyone had to walk right through
their playing area to get to the door.
When asked where they came up with the name Grow Room
We were told they liked it because it can mean so many things,an indoor garden, the womb, the world, your mind, etc.
What Grow Room would like people to know about them as a band is,That their music is their connection to a spiritual place,& they invite everyone to join them.
They believe There is so much negative energy in the world
& they hope their music is a little sanctuary where people
can escape their problems and live in the moment.
They don't imagine to solve anyone's life problems,
Only to provide a respite from life's daily hassles.
Grow Room feels the biggest reward from being together
as a band is,the sheer joy of playing music they've written,
the ability to affect their audience in a positive way.
Their biggest challenge as a band is,a common one for most bands these days,
Time!
They all work days or nights
& that makes it difficult for them to find time
to rehearse & do shows.
We asked what person or artist they would like to meet,
& Who their musical influences are, & we were told that
as for Rich he would like to say Jimi Hendrix, but that would mean he was dead,So he decided to say Neal Young
or Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin.
Grow Room agrees that they are influenced by all the music they hear, even music they don't like. But their biggest musical influences are:
Red Hot Chili Peppers,Rush,Metallica,Stevie Ray Vaughn,
John Mayer,Avenged Sevenfold,& tons of classic rock,
blues,& funk.
We would like to share a Quote from Rich:
"Everything you hear is an influence,
whether it's something you like
or complete crap, Your brain absorbs it. The challenge is to rise above all the clatter & come up with something that is truly unique-truly your own, But we don't consciously consider such things when composing our music,
We just play what makes us feel good."
Grow Room is currently working on getting a MySpace or Website set up,Until then you can contact them
by email for info on show dates & merchandise @:
