On March 3rd, Almost 2500 fans awaited outside the Pershing Center in Lincoln Nebraska for one of the most anticipated rock concerts of the year.
With the opening act Rise Against, the alternative punk rock band, My Chemical Romance put on one hell of a show in front of all the their Nebraska based fans, and it is safe to say that every fan left that concert with great satisfaction. Consisting of 5 unique personalities,
Ray Toro and Frank Lero rocked it out on the guitars, Mikey Way kept the beat alive with his performance on bass guitar, Bob Bryar's extrodinary talent on the drums kept the music pounding, and Gerard Way's amazing vocals kept every fan on their feet and singing along.
Amoung the bands other nine singles, the New Jersey based band performed their chart topping hit, "Welcome to the Black Parade" the first single from their new album "The Black Parade", which was released on CD October 9, 2006. "Welcome to the Black Parade" became
the band's first UK number one on October 15 and their first US number one when if topped the Modern Rock charts on October 26, where it stayed for an outstanding seven weeks.
It also became their first top ten in the US Hot 100.
"Welcome to the Black Parade" took about 3 years to make and consists of almost 167 tracks morphed together! This includes marching band drums, multiple snares, and a horn section.
The lead singer, Gerard Way, says "the song is a prime example of the risks they took to make their third album different from anything they had done previously".
The band is constantly trying not to do the same thing twice and while they progress as a band, they want to make sure that they still have the uniqueness that made us all fall in love with band back in 2002, when there first album "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love"
was released. The band did not merge into the main stream until there second album,
"Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge", the album that contains the hits
"I'm Not Okay (I Promise)", "Helena", and "The Ghost Of You".
Cassie Mitchell of Aurora,Nebraska said "The band was as great as I imagined them to be,their performance was amazing". Whether they are trying to convince us that they aren't okay, paying tribute to a lost loved one,or spreading the message to carry on with life, My Chemical Romance is always welcomed back to Nebraska to put on another outstanding concert!
